FANTASY FOOTBALL DRAFT PRIMER: GUYS I WILL AVOID AT EACH POSITION

Part III of my fantasy football 2011 draft primer is here and today I will discuss with you the guys I will avoid at each position going into my PPR money league draft this weekend.  So without further delay, here are the guys I will take a pass on.

Quarterbacks I Will Avoid:  Aaron Rodgers, Michael Vick, Ben Roethlisberger, Jay Cutler, Matt Cassel

-First let me explain Rodgers.  I put Rodgers in there because I have no plans to ever pick him in the first round.  Thats it.  Great player but I dont endorse using your first round pick on a QB.  Vick to me has major bust potential in that he too could be picked in the first round and he is still the same guy who cant ever play a full season.  He wound up missing four games with injury last season in his MVP campaign and you really cant justify using such a high pick on someone who may not play the whole season.  Roesthlisberger plays in an offense that is run-dominant and his production goes up and down like an elevator from game to game.  The Jay Cutler show is not something I have ever been drawn to due to all the sacks and interceptions, while Cassel has to roll 7's again to duplicate what he did last season.  In other words I dont think so.

Running Backs I Will Avoid:  Michael Turner, Maurice Jones-Drew, Steven Jackson, Shonn Greene, Ryan Matthews, LeGarrette Blount, Cedric Benson, Ryan Torain, CJ Spiller

-Since I play in PPR, Turner sees a vast drop in value since he cant catch the ball.  He also saw a drop in his yards/carry last season as some wear and tear could be happening.  Speaking of wear and tear, Jackson has a ridiculous workload already in his career and despite only being 28, he started showing signs of wear last season.  Be careful.  Jones-Drew I would take in say the late second round but his offseason knee surgery scares me and he is already missing the first preseason game as well with more issues in it.  Greene, Blount, and Benson dont catch the ball like Turner and wont have nearly the rushing numbers like Atlanta's runner.  Torain did some nice things last season but he is always hurt and there is word Tim Hightower could be the back starting there.  Finally Matthews cant stay healthy and Mike Tolbert will get goal-line carries.  Spiller will see Fred Jackson poach a lot of his workload and he didnt impress much in his rookie season.  Look elsewhere.

Wide Receivers I Will Avoid:  Calvin Johnson, Greg Jennings, Mike Wallace, DeSean Jackson, Santonio Holmes, Brandon Lloyd, Michael Crabtree, Sidney Rice, Steve Smith (Phila.), Steve Smith (Car.), Hines Ward

-Johnson is a superb receiver but he has never been a stud pass catcher in the raw totals like Andre Johnson or Roddy White.  He also has been nicked up in his career.  Jennings is a guy who is much more valuable in TD heavy leagues as is Jackson, Wallace, and Holmes.  There is just not enough catches for them to be attractive for me in PPR.  As far as Lloyd, Crabtree, Rice, and Steve Smith Carolina are concerned, bad QB play has them off my lists.  Finally Steve Smith of Philadelphia is going to be the third wideout there and he likely wont start the season on time, while Ward is showing major signs of slipping.

Tight Ends I Will Avoid:  Antonio Gates, Aaron Hernandez, Marcedes Lewis

-Gates is very good when on the field but he is constantly dealing with foot injuries.  He is another year older and so the risk goes up for sure.  Hernandez did some nice things as a rookie last season but fellow TE Rob Gronkowski surpassed him later on and is the clear red zone guy.  Lewis opened eyes with his nice TD haul but he is not a big receptions guy and plays in a pathetic passing offense.

Thats how I see it.  As always I welcome your thoughts so post below.
