2011 FANTASY FOOTBALL DRAFT SLEEPER: DANNY AMENDOLA WR ST. LOUIS RAMS

The St. Louis Rams have a very young team that is just bursting with talent.  They are led by wonder boy QB Sam Bradford who is ready to take the league by storm.  One of the guys he figures to be throwing to often this season is third-year WR Danny Amendola who rose to prominence in 2010 by catching 85 passes for 689 yards and 3 TD's.  Amendola became Bradford's Wes Welker weapon in that he constantly looked for the speedster on curl routes 10 to 15 yards downfield to much success.  Its this reason and more that makes Amendola a 2011 fantasy football sleeper.

For starters, the Welker comparison is almost spot on in that both guys are undersized speedsters who run precise routes and who have the ability to pile up the catches as a result.  Amendola became a PPR weapon in fantasy football last season as a result and so he once again finds himself with his most value coming in that format.  He will reprise his safety net role for Bradford this season and so 80 catches seems like a lock at the very least.  Its also not out of the question that he could hit the 90 mark this season as he enters his third season which is when most wide receivers usually make that leap in production.  He also figures to improve on the yardage as a run at 750 is likely.

The knocks on Amendola are the lack of scores as he had only the three last season.  He doesnt figure to get many looks down in the red zone but 5 is not impossible.  If you combine 5 scores with 90 catches and 750 yards, than you are looking at wide receiver 2 digits.

All in all, I think Danny Amendola makes a very solid WR 3 in PPR fantasy football leagues.  Those in TD heavy formats could take a pass and monitor how he does at the outset.  There is great value to be had here though so be proactive.

2011 PROJECTION:  88 catches 734 yards 5 TD
