2011 FANTASY FOOTBALL DRAFT SLEEPER: PLAXICO BURRESS WR NEW YORK JETS

After two years in state prison, the New York Jets deemed WR Plaxico Burress worthy enough to be signed to a one-year/3-million dollar contract to be the starter opposite newly re-signed Santonio Holmes.  Burress of course went away for accidentally shooting himself in the leg at a nightclub in the midst of the prime of his career but as we have seen with Michael Vick, its certainly possible for guys to come back from a long layoff and be very useful pieces in fantasy football.  With that in mind, lets take a look at why I see Burress as a sleeper heading into the season.
For starters, lets take a look at the last full season Burress had with the New York Giants:

70 catches
1025 yards
12 TD

Of course those numbers came when Burress was three years younger but they tell the story of a guy who had a nose for the end zone and who had the ability to rack up nice yardage as well.  The raw total of catches was never his thing and in the Jets' ground-control offense, that wont change.  But there is no doubt in my mind that Burress will once again be a big time TD threat as Mark Sanchez will surely love throwing it up to him.  Also he should get one-on-one coverage due to the home run ability of Santonio Holmes and the presence of TE Dustin Keller over the middle.  He wont get the 1,000 yards anymore at this stage and in this offense but Burress should have some solid value in TD heavy leagues.

All in all, I think Plaxico Burress makes for a very interesting sleeper in TD heavy fantasy football leagues.  Those who play in PPR shouldnt bother however so know your league settings before you go this route.

2011 PROJECTION:  55 catches 728 yards 6 TD
